Instagram Denies '7 Percent' Rumor, Users Call for Old Feed Anyway

A string of tweets from the official Instagram account on Tuesday sparked an outcry from frustrated users who want the app to bring back its original chronological newsfeed.

It all started when Instagram set out to squash a rumor that it's been limiting the reach of users' posts to just seven percent of their followers.

According to Instagram, "We have not made any recent changes to feed ranking, and we never hide posts from people you're following — if you keep scrolling, you will see them all."

But even so, it turns out IG users still haven't gotten over the loss of the app's chronological feed.

Years ago, Instagram switched from a simple approach that presented the most recent posts at the top of users' feeds to an algorithm that determines post order based on users' behavior.

While this isn't exactly new information, this week's "seven percent" denial gave users a new opportunity to call for their old feeds back.

Here's what one person had to say.

And here's an interesting proposal.

This user longs for the simpler, happier days of Instagram.

This guy, on the other hand, wasn't as sentimental.

Despite the backlash, Instagram maintains their current algorithm exists to provide the best possible user experience.

"Your feed is personalized to you and evolves over time based on how you use Instagram," their account explained.

Dave isn't buying it, though.

What do you think? In the case of Instagram, is technology progress? Or is it high time we get our beloved chronological feed back?
